Meet Hobonichi Friend: Fi

At Nishura EAST, we love seeing how our customers bring their Hobonichi planners to life. For the third volume of our Hobonichi Stories 2026, we spoke with Fi (@youcancallmefidoesbooks on Instagram) to learn about her favourite features, tips, and creative ways of using the Hobonichi Techo.

Q1. How long have you been using a Hobonichi?
2026 will be my second year using Hobonichi.

Q2. What are your favourite features?
I love the layout and the possibility of being creative in it. I also like the monthly setup and the free pages where I can just brain dump — it makes journaling very portable.

Q3. What pens do you use?
A variety, but my main one is the Muji gel ink pen 0.38. I also use Stabilo 0.4 and Tombows for headings and special occasions.

Q4. Any personal rules or habits?
I like taking Sunday afternoons to set up the next week and get creative with pens, stickers, and washi tapes. I update my daily habits on the weekly setup every day for 10 minutes, and on the last day of the month, I do a monthly brain dump on the free pages.

Q5. Tips for other Hobonichi users?
You can be much more creative (or not!) with your setup and use it however it works for you. Explore it as much as you can — there are no failures in this!

Q6. Preferred formats?
I absolutely love the Weeks; it has been the first planner I’ve used consistently every day and every week. I love the portability and overall setup. I’m also going to explore the Techo A6 next year, so let’s see!

Note from the Team

We love Fi's format, which is both well-organised and creative. Her way of recording the books she reads is impressive, and attaching her photos to the weekly pages turns journaling into a personal memory book. From her answers, it’s clear that Hobonichi is a space to explore, create, and enjoy the process — there’s no right or wrong way to use it.

A huge thank you to Fi for sharing her Hobonichi with us!  We always love seeing how our customers bring their planners to life. If you’d like to be featured in our Hobonichi Friend Series, email us at info@nishuraeast.com— we’d love to hear from you.
