minä perhonen creates timeless, all-original garment textiles that are specially dyed, embroidered, and woven to recreate hand-drawn designs.

Using plenty of water to mix in with the paint and a flat brush, a collection of arcs that blend together is created for the aalto. This textile was made with transparent watercolour which overlaps in layers, making them look like waves that continue into the distance, and to the far reaches of an endless sea.

The fabric is a linen with a smooth texture. The interior comes in a deep blue shade, while the two bookmarks are yellow and grey, respectively.

About the Artist

minä perhonen is a brand created by designer Akira Minagawa. First founded in 1995 under the name minä, and renamed “minä perhonen” in 2003. In Finnish, “minä” means “I,” and “perhonen” means “butterfly,” expressing Minagawa’s hopes to create designs as light-hearted and beautiful as a butterfly’s flapping wings.

About the brands / artists

Hobonichi Techo is one of Japan’s most treasured planner brands. The company was founded by the writer Shigesato Itoi in 1998, who set up a famous website - Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun – where he posted blog entries, articles, essays and interviews. In 2001 they decided to create the perfect planner, starting with just 12,000 copies. A business that has now grown to last year’s figure of nearly 750,000 planners! Find our more
