NishuraEast’s mission is about finding and offering beautiful, useful and interesting cultural products from Japan. At the heart of this are the brands we work with, and an impressive array of artists, crafts people, designers, and skilled professionals.

These brands reflect the creation of the amazing cultural development of Japan – its diversity, its love of natural materials and the environment, and its wealth of traditional creative skills.

Marukyu Shoten is a dye studio in Tokyo. Founded in 1899, all the fabric is hand-dyed by a small team of artisans. Marukyu Shoten uses a dyeing technique called chusen, which uses paper stencils called ‘ise katagami’ that have been designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan.
